Mophat Okinyi

Archetype: The Steward of the People Behind Technology

Mophat is an AI and human rights advocate, Founder and CEO of Techworker Community Africa and

Chairperson of the African Content Moderators Union. Drawing on his experience in data training and

content moderation, he works to make the human labour behind AI visible and protect the rights, wellbeing

and agency of African technology workers.

Session: Anatomy of Resistance: People, Labour and Data Workers

Mophat brings the lived experience of Kenyan AI workers into the Lab, examining invisible labour, workertestimony, consent, wellbeing and collective organising. His contribution asks what moving from extraction toworker-led stewardship would mean in practice.

QUESTION ENTERING THE ROOM:

How can African workers move from being subjects of technological extraction to
active participants and stewards of the technologies they help create?

What they leave behind:

A worker-centred framework grounded in dignity, consent, Ubuntu and collective
responsibility.
