ary is Assistant Professor of Global Mental Health at Aga Khan University’s Brain and Mind Institute, with
research affiliations at Oxford and Harvard. Her work addresses structural stigma and strengthens healthcare
systems for people experiencing mental, neurological and substance-use conditions.

Mary uses her knowledge of the brain and mental health to explore what the mind is, how human
intelligence differs from artificial systems and why AI should not be treated as inherently superior. She also brings behavioural research into the Lab’s evaluation of agency, imagination and future consciousness.
